Devil's Chimney

Devil's Chimney

The dramatic crack in the rock between Shanklin and Ventnor known as Devil's Chimney is wonderful and beautiful place to visit on the Isle of Wight. It is the site where a section of the coastal path drops down into the earth to emerge in a woodland area below and is stunning even to those who visit time and again and many pause on their walk to photograph and look up at the sky from the deepest parts.

Devils Chimney is easy to negotiate as long as you are comfortable with stairs and there is a nearby cafe for refreshments after a short visit. More energetic visitors may wish to incorporate a look at Devil's Chimney into a longer walk from Ventnor to Shanklin or Shanklin to Ventnor along the Isle of Wight coastal path.

The nearest place to park for a walk to Devil's Chimney is at the public car park just up the hill from the Smugglers Haven Tea Rooms on the Ventnor to Shanklin road. The path heading towards Ventnor starts at the bottom of the hill in front of the tea rooms and Devil's Chimney is a couple of minutes walk down the hill. If you are walking the coastal path there are signs leading from the coastal path but due to diversions along the route it is best to find it on the map.
