Fisherman's Cottage Public House - Shanklin

Seaside Public House where you can enjoy good food & drink with views of the sea

The Fisherman's Cottage Pub is right at the end of the Shanklin promenade and near the Shanklin Chine. Here the beach is a little quieter and you can sit in relative peace with great sea views. A good range of food is on offer and includes good sea food which is popular with Islanders.

The quality of the food was first rate and the chili prawn starter looked and tasted superb.

The Highdown still draws a crowd due to an excellent reputation for it's food and because it combines an authentically friendly atmosphere and charming traditional public house feel. The Met - Ventnor

map_ventnorExcellent food tapas style food

pintxoplaya

With a beach front position overlooking the sea, a good range of wines, an extensive menu of good food and a smart look & feel, the Pintxo Playa is a lovely place to stop for lunch.

A meze of humus, olives (assortment recommended) seafood dishes and roasted vegetables all accompanied by a interesting selection of breads was extremely satisfying and reasonably priced. The wine list makes for a pleasant read and the ones served by the glass are well chosen.

Excellent food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere

Specialising in local game, fish and the more traditional dishes the Cask & Taverners in Godshill offers something deliciously different. A large board shows what is in season around the year and the specials allow you to eat the freshest local foods.

A variety of tempting dishes waft past to other tables as you make your difficult choices from the menu but a good selection of wines, ales and ciders help lubricate the brain in preparation.

The New Inn - Shalfleet

The New Inn Shalfleet Isle of Wight

Traditional pub with good seafood.

This pub is one of the oldest on the Isle of Wight and dates back to 1743. The interior remains traditional and the open fire and exposed beams add to the warm atmosphere. Despite a fairly isolated location you will usually find it bustling with punters who are pondering the choices on the specials board.

The food is well prepared and includes has a large selection of fish and seafood as well as traditional favourites. The whole crab is excellent (although tricky for the uninitiated) and the fillet of salmon with puy lentils & minted yoghurt dressing would satisfy the highest standards.  Ingredients always seem to be soured locally wherever possible and the dishes on the specials board often features the names of farmers & producers.

The New Inn is easy to find at Shalfleet between Yarmouth and Newport. If you have a chance I recommend a visit across the road to have a look at the fine old church.
